• Applications are invited for a part time post for a Research Support Officer to carry out duties in relation to the ASTREA Project which is funded by the Fusion Technology & Development Programme 2020 of the Malta Council for Science & Technology, and in which Blu5 Labs Ltd. is beneficiary. The Research Support Officers may also be required to work on other projects undertaken by Blu5 Labs Ltd.
• Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in Astrionics or a related electronics field, as well as experience in the design and operation of communications systems. Applicants should also possess some experience in the evaluation of the reliability of electronic systems under radiation.
• Preference will be given to applicants who already possess hands-on experience with Blu5 Technology, such as the SECube™.
• Applicants who currently hold an undergraduate degree in electronics may also be considered as long as they are in the final stages of obtaining a Master’s degree in Astrionics or a related electronics field.

• The flexible part-time posts are for an initial period of 12 months, which may be extended further, and carry an initial remuneration of €12 per hour in respect of applicants holding a Master’s degree. A remuneration rate of €10 per hour will apply until a successful candidate obtains a Master’s degree.
• In view of the current COVID-19 situation, remote on-boarding and special working conditions will be considered until the situation returns to normal.

Further Information

• The ASTREA Project Consortium will specifically develop novel satellite deployment technology that further reduces launch costs of a miniature “SpaceLab”. This intellectual property was highlighted as the most promising by the consultants that were engaged during a prior CVP stage of the project. In order to demonstrate this technology, ASTREA aims to prepare and integrate the essential subsystems into a complete spacecraft demonstrator, including this technology to TRL5 in preparation for a first test launch. • The appointees will be expected to:
  • produce deliverables and prepare related reports within the stipulated time frames as specified in the project description;
  • keep detailed progress reports and abide to all the conditions imposed by the project;
  • assist in the dissemination process with the relevant stakeholders via a workshop/seminar;
  • attend project internal meetings and consortium meetings;
  • travel and attend meetings/conferences as the need arises (covid-19 permitting);
  • perform any other project related task as instructed by the project coordinator and key experts.
• The Research Support Officers may also be given the opportunity to work on other projects undertaken by Blu5 Labs Ltd.
• The appointees will be expected to work at such places and during such hours as may be determined by the Blu5 Labs and its partners.
• The selection procedure will involve:
  • scrutiny of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application);
  • shortlisting; and
  • an interview and / or extended interview.
• The post is for an initial period of 12 months, which will be subject to a probationary period.
